I love this. There's so much out there about hooking the reader in the first paragraph or closing a book in a way that's memorable...but I have put down a lot of novels and never picked them up again because I just didn't feel the desperate need to move on to the next chapter.

Ahhh thank you!! YES! that exact experience is what made me obsessed with chapter momentum. Like sure, the opening line sparkles and the prose is gorgeous… but if I hit a chapter break and feel even slightly “meh,” I’m gone 😭

It’s such a sneaky pitfall because it’s not bad writing, it’s just not urgent writing. And most advice skips right over that middle territory between the hook and the finale. So I’m so glad this post hit for you 🖤 more coming soon (and I hope they help keep those pages turning too!!)

Yeah. I think writers sometimes forget that we’re essentially putting on a show for readers. Good writing and a good story are the minimum!
